Options Data MCP Server
Add Moontower's hosted MCP server to Claude Code, then sign in with OAuth. In Claude Code, open /mcp, select moontower, and choose Authenticate. For scripts and headless clients, pass an API key in the X-API-Key header. The tools return implied vol, skew, constant-maturity IV, and option chains.
claude mcp add --transport http moontower https://api.moontower.ai/mcpMCP · api.moontower.ai/mcp
Add it to Claude Code, then sign in.
The server URL is https://api.moontower.ai/mcp. The command below registers the server. Sign-in is the next step: in Claude Code, open /mcp, select moontower, and choose Authenticate, then allow the connection in the browser. Passing the REST API key in the X-API-Key header is the alternative for scripts and headless clients. Do not commit a key to .mcp.json or project docs.

Add the server
Run this on its own. It registers the server. It does not finish sign-in.
claude mcp add --transport http moontower https://api.moontower.ai/mcp - 02
Sign in with OAuth
In Claude Code, open /mcp, select moontower, and choose Authenticate. Approve the connection in the browser.
/mcp → moontower → Authenticate → Allow - 03
Or pass an API key
For scripts or headless clients, send the same key as the REST API in the X-API-Key header. The value starts with mtw_. The export uses the placeholder mtw_.... A real key typed into that export is stored in shell history.
export MOONTOWER_API_KEY="mtw_..." claude mcp add --transport http moontower https://api.moontower.ai/mcp \ --header "X-API-Key: $MOONTOWER_API_KEY" - 04
Or write .mcp.json
Same API-key path, in a project file. Claude Code expands ${MOONTOWER_API_KEY}. A raw $MOONTOWER_API_KEY, or an unexpanded ${MOONTOWER_API_KEY}, will not authenticate.
{ "mcpServers": { "moontower": { "type": "http", "url": "https://api.moontower.ai/mcp", "headers": { "X-API-Key": "${MOONTOWER_API_KEY}" } } } } - 05
Verify the connection
After you allow the connection, claude mcp get moontower should show https://api.moontower.ai/mcp. On the API-key path it should also show an X-API-Key header.
claude mcp get moontower claude mcp list

Vol data alongside your broker.
The tool list is market data, options data, trade ideas, and a ticker directory. It does not connect to a broker, and it does not place trades.

No broker connection
Nothing in the tool list reads a brokerage account. Add it next to the broker workflow you already use.
- 02
No order placement
Nothing in the tool list places a trade. Research vol in Claude Code or another MCP client, then execute wherever you already trade.

Setup, auth, and what the server returns.
What is the server URL?
https://api.moontower.ai/mcp. moontower.ai/mcp and app.moontower.ai/mcp are the product site, not the API.
How do I authenticate?
Two ways. Add the server with the claude mcp add command on this page, then in Claude Code open /mcp, select moontower, and choose Authenticate. For scripts or headless clients, pass the same API key as the REST API in the X-API-Key header. Prefer an environment variable named MOONTOWER_API_KEY, and do not commit the key. The export on this page shows the placeholder mtw_....
How do I add it to Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add with the server URL and no header. That registers the server. Then sign in from /mcp by choosing Authenticate. For a headless client, add the X-API-Key header or the documented .mcp.json. Claude Code expands ${MOONTOWER_API_KEY} inside .mcp.json.
How do I check that it connected?
After you allow the connection, claude mcp get moontower should show https://api.moontower.ai/mcp. Also run claude mcp list. On the API-key path, claude mcp get should show an X-API-Key header. Claude Code prints that header as ${MOONTOWER_API_KEY} even when the variable is set.
Which clients does it support?
Claude Code and other MCP clients. The transport is HTTP.
Which tools are on the server?
15 typed tools, generated from the public FastAPI endpoints: get_prices, get_implied_volatility, get_realized_volatility, get_constant_maturity_implied_volatility, get_iv_rank, get_realized_vs_implied_volatility, get_volatility_skew, get_option_chain, get_early_exercise_analysis, get_options_pair_hedge, get_hedge_ratios, get_earnings_dates, get_cockpit_statistics, get_ticker_directory, get_trade_ideas.
Does it connect to my broker or place trades?
No. The published tool list is prices, volatility, option chains, trade ideas, earnings dates, cockpit statistics, and the ticker directory.
What does API and MCP access cost?
Individual is $99/mo billed annually. Team is $499/seat/mo billed annually. Enterprise is Custom. API / MCP access is included on each of those plans at 2 credits per call.
Add the server, then ask your agent about vol.
Sign up for a plan with API and MCP access, then add https://api.moontower.ai/mcp to Claude Code.
